Scientific Conference

Findacure organises an annual scientific conference on Rare Disease Day to discuss some of the latest developments in the rare disease field. The conference has a scientific focus, while aiming to unite patient groups, researchers, and industry to discuss rare disease research, encouraging collaboration, interaction, and understanding between these very different stakeholders. The conference currently focuses on the theme of drug repurposing for rare diseases, with both the 2016 and planned 2017 events featuring talks from across the repurposing world.

Event Format

Talks – Our conference features talks from expert speakers across the rare disease spectrum. We aim to ensure that our programme of invited talks reflects the diversity of our audience, meaning that patients and patient representatives are given their chance to discuss their diseases alongside researchers.

Lightning talk sessions – To encourage our delegates to engage with the day, we invite everyone who registers to propose a five minute lightning talk. We then select a diverse programme of short talks for the event, giving our delegates the chance to share their work and challenge our five minute bell.

Panel discussion – No conference is complete without discussion. We give our delegates a chance to quiz all of our speakers in a panel discussion to close the programme.

Refreshment – Timely tea breaks, and buffet lunch provide valuable networking opportunities, and a chance to digest the day’s proceedings.

Tickets – We list our conference online to provide easy registration for our delegates. We aim to keep the price of attendance low, and implement a tiered pricing structure, designed to minimise the cost to patients and students, ultimately promoting access for all. All income from ticket sales is used for Findacure’s charitable projects.

Our Next Conference

We would like to thank all our speakers, sponsors and attendees of the 2017 scientific conference. Our next conference will be held around Rare Disease Day 2018, with the first announcements to be made late this year.

If you would like to speak at next year’s conference, we’d love to hear from you so please get in touch. If you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, please contact our Events Officer, Mary Rose Roberts at [email protected].
