You may have visited Victoria Park before, but you’ve never seen it quite like this. On Sunday 6th December, around 4000 Santas descended upon the quiet London park to unite in one mission: completing a 5km or 10km run in aid of various charities.
Among those donning white fluffy beards and large red suits were five supporting Findacure: Briony Davies, Megan Wilson, Rachel Jones, and our own Libbie Read and Rick Thompson. Despite the cold weather and strong winds (which saw several charity flags fly away and one gazebo snap in half), Team Findacure was all smiles – especially when “one-size-fits-all” costumes turned out to fit no one in particular.
Undeterred, the team jumped and laughed their way through the group warm up, before lining up for the race. The hooter sounded at 11am, and all 4000 Santas burst forth to the cheers of charities, partners, and families. Special mention has to go to Libbie and Megan who were not only the first women to finish the 10km run, but also in the top 15 of all 10km runners, both finishing around the 45 minute marker. In fact, all of our runners finished in under an hour, which is a massive achievement.
Our Santas have raised over £600 for Findacure so far, which will all be put towards our 2016 empowerment projects for rare disease patients and advocates. We’d like to thank each runner for their Christmas spirit, and all their hard work in training and fundraising.
If you are inspired by our Santas, we have places available in the Adidas Half Marathon, taking place on the renowned Silverstone Racing Course in March, and the Royal Parks Half Marathon! Email email@example.com for more details.[/two-third][one-third][/one-third][/row]
